It is ugly, it can make your skin swell, and it can also cause illness. Mold is something you don't want in your home. If it's caught quickly, mold can usually be removed by you. No matter the location of the mold, there are safe and effective methods to remove it from many household materials.

You only need to have a basic knowledge of how mold works and what it does to your house in order to return it to its original state.

What Is Mold?

First, what is this terrible household infestation called mold? Mold is a fungus that is composed of microscopic living organisms. It thrives in damp environments, such as basements and bathrooms.

Mold and its spores live all around. There are more than 100,000 types, and almost every homeowner has at most one.

Although some mold types are not dangerous, there are many that are. It doesn't matter which type, you shouldn't have it in your house. Mold can cause allergic reactions, mold growth, and can even lead to illness. It can also look similar to soil buildup.

Mold is a live organism. It's best to kill and remove the mold immediately. You should be capable of doing this yourself, as long the mold is limited to a very small area.

What Kills Mold - Bleach vs Vinegar

Most homeowners think that they should use bleach or another cleaning chemical to clean the mold. These cleaners are toxic for your family and don't do much good to mold. Vinegar works best to kill mold.

How can vinegar kill the mold, when other chemicals aren't able to? The chemical structure of bleach prevents it, however, from reaching porous materials.

It can clear off surface molds but not penetrate those where the mold spores are deep. It simply can't get at the root of the problem.

Vinegar, on other hand, can penetrate porous substances and attack the membrane with its acidity. This effectively kills any remaining spores so they can't reproduce or grow back.

While bleach can temporarily clean moldy surfaces, vinegar is able to completely remove them.

How does Vinegar help Get Rid of Molds? And Other All-Natural Solutions

Hydrogen peroxide Hydrogen is an antifungal. It works the same as vinegar on hard surfaces. In a spray can pour 3% hydrogen peroxide.

Then, let the solution sit for 10 to 15 minutes. For any residue, scrub off the mold and wipe down everything.

Baking soda - This mild ingredient has the pH that is needed to kill mold. Combine a quarter cup of baking soda and water to spray the moldy areas. Use water to clean the area. Spray the area once more and dry it. Removing any residue can be done with a damp sponge.

Tea tree oils: Even though you might not have any in your home, you can purchase tea tree oils at local health food stores as well as online. It is a powerful fungicide that can be used for killing mold.
